MSA British Drag Racing Championship
Danny Cockerill

Danny Cockerill

Car: '57 Chevy Bel Air
Occupation: Director, Steelcraft – steel fabrication
Home Town/Country: Basildon
Team: DC Motorsports
Best ET: 6.176 seconds
Best Terminal Speed: 230.73mph

With a major win already to his credit (2006 FIA European Finals), Danny looked set to be a powerful presence in this year’s MSA Championship.

Having missed Easter’s MSA Round 1, Danny installed a new Brad Anderson engine from Canadian Carl Spiering’s Engine Research & Development and went Saturday afternoon motoring at the Main Event (MSA Rnd. 2). On only its second pass during qualifying, the new mill secured Europe’s first 230mph Pro Mod terminal speed (230.73mph) with an ET (6.176) that fell just .002sec. short of the European record at the time. Both figures were British bests, though the subsequent rain-out prevented Danny from backing them up within the one per cent required to ratify official records.

At June’s Summer Nationals (MSA Rnd. 3), Danny was again the quickest in the field, clocking a pair of 6.38s before a transmission problem slowed him to semi-final defeat.

In July, Danny contested the FIA event at Alastaro, Finland. He qualified 12th and won his opening-round eliminations match but sustained serious damage to the potent new engine. Forced to withdraw for the remainder of the season, he will concentrate on gearing up for 2008.
